Gulf Shores National Seashore, Alabama – Fort Pickens, Pensacola, Florida

February 26, 2016
DAYS 19 & 20

This is our second time staying at the Fort Pickens Campground ($13.80 a night, for seniors,  water & electric).  The seashore is as beautiful as we remembered.

You can see the Pensacola Lighthouse,  that sits on the Naval Air Station Pensacola base, across the bay  from the Fishing Pier.   The lighthouse has been called one of the most haunted lighthouses in America!  It is open for tours and on our list of places to visit,  next time.    You do not need a Florida fishing license to fish off the pier at Fort Pickens.

Self Guided Tour booklets are available or twice a day there are Ranger led tours of Fort Pickens.  My recommendation is to visit the Fort Museum and watch the 15 minute film before heading to the Fort.

Our favorite Gulf Breeze Restaurant is Flounders.  It is a beach front restaurant and depending on your preference of view or if you’ve brought your dog, is where you’ll be seated.  This time E T stayed back at the camper so we ate in the Marlin Bar Vs the beachfront.  Good Food, Great atmosphere and Lots of Fun whoever you bring.
